Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom was naturally delighted with his team’s performance but played down his team’s current league position after beating league leaders Blackburn Rovers 3-0 as United replaced them at the top of the table.

United’s 3-0 victory, married with Watford’s 0-0 draw at Preston North End, and Hull City’s 5-2 defeat at West Bromwich Albion, saw the Blades fly to the top of the table with five league matches played out.

Of course, Blades supporters cannot take their position for granted. It could all change next week at Luton, which Blades boss Heckingbottom emphasised. He will be delighted if we are top of the league in 40 games’ time. He was, however, delighted with his team’s performance and how his side broke Blackburn down.

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom told the BBC;

“I thought from start to finish we were excellent. We had a purpose about us with the ball and tried to move it quick and be positive. And aggression without the ball, to try and win it back and make it difficult for Blackburn as well.

“I think that type of performance would have given anyone a game. We just try and deliver that. We know we’re not going to every week, but we’ll try and do it.

“In 40 games’ time, if we’re top of the league, I’ll be delighted.”
