Good results on and off the pitch for the Blades. Financial results for the year ending 30 June 2005 have been announced. Turnover increased by 10.2% to £13m, while the club’s operating loss – before player registrations and exceptional items – fell 57% to £0.3m. Chairman Kevin McCabe said: ‘Over the past few years we have been putting in place a series of initiatives designed to create a sustainable leisure, property and services business which is able to support Sheffield United’s on-pitch activities. These results bear the initial fruit of that strategy and our current position at the top of the Championship, 12 points clear of the play-off positions, underlines how that strategy has enabled us to improve the on-pitch performance.’

On the playing side:

Neil Warnock says that goalkeeper Paddy Kenny and top scorer Steve Kabba, whose contracts run out at the end of the season, ‘will be receiving new offers later this week. The deals offered are very good for this club and I hope the players will be realistic.’

Neil Warnock has been on a scouting mission abroad, although the potential targets have remained unnamed. Reports suggest he will watch the second leg of the World Cup play off between Turkey and Switzerland.

The Bramall Lane coaches are giving a foreign player a trial with a few more expected over the next few weeks.
