Blades boss Micky Adams has hit out at Premier League players who refuse to drop a division.

Adams continues to look for players who will strengthen his squad as the vital run-in edges ever closer in United’s fight for survival. However, players currently attached to Premier League clubs are ‘reluctant’ to join the Blades and Adams is disappointed by the attitude on show.

‘We agreed a deal with a Premiership club to borrow a goalkeeper but the lad chose not to come, and I think that is how many players are today, especially in the Premier League.

‘Many are in the first-team squad but don’t even play Reserve games and really, they don’t want to play. They pick up very good money and all they have to do is turn up for training. Their thinking is, why should I put my neck on the line for the likes of Sheffield United in the position they are in?’

It’s also clear following Adams’ comments that a goalkeeper is required, and following Roy Carroll’s (unsuccessful) trial three days ago it appears that Steve Simonsen’s position is very much under threat.
