Sheffield United striker Ched Evans is optimistic as he joins up with the Wales squad for the Qualifier against England tomorrow.

The striker, who has impressed for in a disappointing season for the Blades received the call up last week by former boss Gary Speed, and the striker believes that his managers know how will benefit his game for the national team.

“Gary knows my game and he knows what I can do. I`m pleased that he got the job and, fingers crossed, it can only be good for me.

He won`t do me any favours but, like the rest of the lads here at United, I enjoyed working for him and he taught me a lot. If he does give me the chance then it`s up to me to make the most of it and take it.”

Evans was a prolific goalscorer in the Under 21 side, but has found opportunities to impress sparse for the seniors. Another player who could feature is Sam Vokes, who returned to parent club Wolves earlier this week, and who would love the chance to take the partnership from the Under 21 side, and from the Blades, all the way to Speed’s team.

“We`ve done well in the past,” said Vokes. “Hopefully we can put that experience to good use if we link up again and click into gear.

Plus we`ve been working together at United so that can only be a good thing too.”

Two former Blades could feature for England in the game as mentioned earlier in the week; Phil Jagielka and Kyle Walker both received a call-up from Fabio Capello. Gareth Bale is unavailable for the game, which will have reduced Wales’ chances immeasurably.

Two former Blades striker linked up for Wales in the late nineties, but can you name them?
