Sheffield United’s Austrian midfielder Johannes Ertl believes the Blades can make the top six this season.
Ertl joined United from Crystal Palace in the summer, has quickly become a first team regular at Bramall Lane, and came close to making himself an instant hero when his late header struck the bar at Elland Road on Saturday.
Now the former Palace man believes his new side can mount a serious challenge this season, helped by the fact that the nPOwer Championship is such a tight division.
‘This division is very complex. It’s very difficult to predict. But the one thing that everyone does know is that if you put two, three, four results together then you start shooting right-up the table.
‘It is possible to make-up a lot of ground in a very short space of time.’

Despite the Blades currently sitting at the wrong end of the table, Ertl believes they have the right attitude to turn things around, and not get drawn into a similar battle to his Palace side last season.
‘My goal is the top six and we can definitely achieve that. With the quality of player we’ve got here and the spirit behind the scenes then I’m adamant that we can. We should have come away with something over the weekend. In fact we would have done if my effort hadn’t come back out.
‘We’ve been unfortunate in quite a few games now. Sometimes decisions have gone against us at key moments. But what we have to do is make sure that we bounce back from disappointments well. Not just once. Two or three times.
