Sheffield United Football Club have been placed under a transfer embargo according to the EFL embargo reporting service.

United have breached EFL guideline 52.2.3, which concerns the default of payments to another club “under a transfer or compensation arrangement”. According to BBC Radio Sheffield, the club has two business days to sort out the situation with the EFL before the embargo comes in place.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire told The Star

“As soon as the payment is made, the embargo will be lifted. All Sheffield United have to do is pay the right amount of money to the other club and then the embargo will be lifted.”

Currently, the Blades are in an extremely unique predicament because they are in the middle of a financial takeover, which could be the reason why United have not yet paid the remaining installments for one of their transfers.

My Verdict

It certainly isn’t the case of Sheffield United being ‘potless’ as some of the supporters have suggested for a while now under Prince Abdullah’s ownership. If that was the case then why would they spend over £2M on new training ground pitches? It wouldn’t make sense.

There are rumours of this payment being the last installment for Sander Berge. Some rumours suggest it is an installment for Anel Ahmedhodzic.

Whatever the payment is for tells me one thing: the proposed takeover is very much a forgone conclusion. It’s just a matter of months before it becomes official.

This doesn’t affect bringing in a Reda Khadra replacement because the fact that United recalled and decided to keep Will Osula suggested that we were never going to attempt to even look for another forward.
