Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough admitted they told the players at half time that there was the possibility of a steel city derby in the last eight of the FA Cup if they could come back and beat Nottingham Forest.

The quarter final draw took place with the first half in play at Bramall Lane, it threw together the possibility of a clash between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday at Bramall Lane, and the United manager said the incentive was there for the players.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Clough said, “We told them the draw just before they went back out for the second half. We ummed and aahed about telling them and a few didn`t believe us.

“We had to come back and win our game but it was a small incentive for the players.”

“If it is them then I will be looking forward to it.”

It certainly worked as United, who had trailed 1-0 at half time against their championship opponents, produced a stirring second half performance to beat the championship side 3-1.

United will now have to wait to find out if they will be facing Sheffield Wednesday or Charlton Athletic in the last eight. The original game at Hillsborough was called off on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch and they have yet to announce a new date for the tie.
