Manager Nigel Clough has said he was delighted to see United book their place in round three of the FA Cup following our three nil victory over Plymouth Argyle at the weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site at full time, the manager explained that he was happy with the reaction of the players in the second period because for him, the first half had been very ‘flat’.

‘It is nice to progress to the third round again, but it wasn’t easy. Plymouth made it hard for us, they came and gave it a go and we were flat in the first half. But having survived the penalty miss, the lads reacted positively and once Jose tucked away our first penalty the confidence that was lacking a bit, came back and was clear to see.’

Clough goes on to say that in a game dominated by spot kicks, he has no complaints with the one they were awarded, just as thought our two were stonewall shouts as well, he was just glad luck appeared to be on our side as he knows it would’ve been a different game had they got their noses in front.

‘Once we got in front we played at a quicker tempo with more freedom and in the end it could’ve been more than three, we created several chances and Jose should have had his hattrick.’

Describing it as an important win, the manager also said it would give us good confidence going into the game against Fleetwood Town now and the usual hectic Christmas schedule, so he’s looking forward to the tie later tonight and we’ll see who we get.
