Manager Nigel Clough has said he was delighted to have seen Sheffield United progress through to the next round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last night as he believes we thoroughly deserved our two one victory over Hartlepool United at their Victoria Park.

United had to take the lead twice in the game to secure victory and we did so through Baxter and Campbell-Ryce and a very pleased manager told the Official Site.

‘It’s always pleasing to get a victory on the back of a defeat and it was a decent enough performance. We had enough chances to win the game comfortably and their goal comes with the aid of a deflection. We made 11 changes, but the focus was always to win the game and progress, that doesn’t change regardless of the competition. Winning is a good habit, and it goes without saying that losing is not a nice feeling and it isn’t something we want to experience to often.’

Speaking about the opener from Baxter the gaffer went on to say that it was another ‘terrific’ goal from the player and he continues to show what he’s capable of, but having got 45 minutes under his belt, he is ahead of schedule at the moment and that’s a ‘fantastic’ bonus for the both the player and the club at the minute.

The gaffer also namechecked Harris for his ‘positive’ performance and he was pleased with the partnership between McGahey and Basham in defence, as having seen them partner at centre half for Blackpool it was something he wanted to try out for himself and overall he was pretty pleased.
