Sheffield United marched into the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area quarter finals thanks to a late goal at Victoria Park to secure us a 2-1 win over league 2 strugglers Hartlepool United on Tuesday night.

Hartlepool started well but we were looking the more likely to breakthrough with Louis Reed narrowly missing the target.

Joe Baxter (30) didn’t though on the half hour as he fired past Scott Flinders to make it one-nil, which was taken into the half time break.

Minutes into the second half time the home side were level though, a wicked deflection saw Iain Turner, who has barely played any first-team football in the past few years, beaten by Michael Duckworth (50) with the scores levelled up at one-one.

Diego De Girolamo and Chris Porter were both denied by a fine double save by Hartlepool ‘keeper Flinders before Jamie Murphy’s acrobatic effort hit the bar.

A penalty shootout was looming until Jamal Campbell-Ryce (82) marked his return to the first-team with a goal that secured us a two-one win and booked our place in Saturday lunchtimes draw for the next round.
