Manager Nigel Clough was a very satisfied man at full time in our four one victory over Colchester, but despite his pleasure at the result he knows we still have room for further improvement in our overall performance as we head into the game against Bristol City at the weekend.

Ending a run of back to back defeats in February, speaking to the Official Site the gaffer explained.

‘It wasn’t a spectacular performance at all and we must be better than we were at times in the final third, but it is very satisfying to have won the game and scored four goals. The early goal was pleasing and relaxed everyone, because before the game there seemed to be a nervousness after a couple of defeats. We want to the players to be positive, but when they aren’t that is because of a fear and a lack of confidence to make the right decisions, meaning it is easier to go backwards.’

Clough goes on to say that with the club still integrating several new players to the group, he picked out John Brayford as being near back to his best following his return – especially his offensive play down the wing in the second half, and he feels his efforts help ‘inspire’ others to pick up their performances as well.

‘When there is no danger of losing the game, you need to enjoy it and get amongst the goals. We have scored six in the last two home league matches though and won them both, so we should be confident and let’s not forget we are now back in the top six with games in hand.’

With goalkeeper Mark Howard pulling up during the warm up of the game, there isn’t a full update on what problem he suffered, but the gaffer would’ve been delighted with the performance of Iain Turner as he stepped in between the sticks late on.
