The Lisbon heat alone, in the game against Casa Pia, was a difficult challenge that United came through. It might be a similar case for the game tomorrow as temperatures will rise to almost 30° up and down the country.

United didn’t start the Casa Pia game particularly well, they were behind just after five minutes. However they eventually found a rhythm in difficult weather and pitch conditions, winning the game 2-1 thanks to a Sander Berge tap-in and a thunderous left-footed strike from Daniel Jebbison.

Paul Heckingbottom fielded a different side in each half in order to get minutes into everybody’s legs. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the exciting Manchester City loanee, Tommy Doyle, as he wasn’t risked due to a slight muscle injury. Hopefully we get to see him in action tomorrow.

We also didn’t get to see Wes Foderingham, so Adam Davies played 60 minutes in which he made an excellent point-blank save in the first half to keep the score at 1-0. Youngster Jordan Amissah was given the last 30 minutes in goal, but had very little to do.

Jack Robinson didn’t feature either due to picking up a slight knock in training. This meant highly rated youngster Nickseon Gomis got to play more minutes than anybody else, as he replaced an unwell Rhys Norrington-Davies halfway through the first half, on the left side of the back three.

Tomorrow’s game against Lincoln City will be split into two 60 minute matches with Paul Heckingbottom fielding a different team each game. The intensity is already stepping up a level or two as players will go from playing 45 minutes to playing 60 minutes.
