Can Burnley claim 3 Points and move away from relegation zone with win today?

|

Burnley host Sheffield United in the final match of 2021. Sheffield United will be looking for their first victory of the season whilst Burnley will be looking for three vital points to move them away from the danger zone.

Like United, Burnley has had a struggling start to the 2020-21 season, though not as damaging as today’s opponents, who have failed to win a Premier League match thus far this season. They claimed just two points in their first seven league matches before beating Crystal Palace on 23rd November. Since then they have claimed a further two victories against Arsenal and Wolves and two more draws.

They were last in action two days ago at Leeds United, losing 0-1 at Elland Road to Patrick Bamford’s fifth-minute penalty. That game gives Burnley little time to rest between, where United will hope that this will act in their favour.

Sean Dyche will have a selection headache ahead of today’s game. The Clarets are expected to be without Matej Vydra (back), who scored in this fixture earlier in the season, Robbie Brady (thigh), Jack Cork, Dwight McNeil (groin), and Johann Berg Gudmundsson (thigh), are all ruled out by injury.

The two clubs have already met once so far this season. That was in the Carabao Cup Second Round on 17 September at Turf Moor. The game finished 1-1 at 90 minutes, Matej Vuydra’s strike on 67 minutes cancelled out David McGoldrick’s fourth-minute opener. The Clarets went through after winning a penalty shoot-out 5-4 and went onto beat Millwall in the next round before losing 0-3 at home to Manchester City.
