Planning permission has been granted to Sheffield United for a new £2.5million stand at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield City Council approved plans for a new corner stand between the Global Windows South Stand and the Bramall Lane stand.

A ‘landmark’ four star hotel development that was put in as part of the same application will now be looked at separately once the plans are re-submitted.

The new stand will produce 2000 more seats increasing the capacity to 33 000.

Executive Chairman Kevin McCabe said on the official site: ‘We are delighted with the decision. Not only does this mean we can start work on the project as soon as possible but we can move onto the next stage of our plans and work with the local authority in the development of the proposed hotel at the rear of the new stand.’

Consultations are also going on with planning officials to add to the ‘new Kop’ with an upper tier being added behind the current stand. This would add around another 5000 seats.
