It was a bad night for young Sheffield United defender Sean McGinty after he was sent off representing Republic of Ireland in their under-21 European championship qualifier against Montenegro.

McGinty, who joined United in the summer from Manchester United, saw red in the second minute of injury time for a second bookable offence as Ireland saw their hopes of reaching next year`s finals disappear.

Ireland looked to be on course for a crucial three points as they led at the break but two goals in three minutes inside the final fifteen minutes means Ireland can no longer qualify.

McGinty has recently returned to Bramall Lane after brief loan spell at League Two side Northampton Town, where he made two appearances.
