Sheffield United smashed their record transfer fee yesterday as we struck a deal with Brentford that saw John Egan return to Bramall Lane for a second time.

The media reported the deal as being worth £4million to Brentford, but officially it is undisclosed as is often the way these days in football.

The Republic of Ireland international and Brentford skipper comes in with solid leadership skills and Championship experience and he’s certainly stepped up a level since he was on loan with us back in the 2011/12 campaign where he made one appearance.

The 25-year-old has signed a four year deal with the club and he becomes the second capture of the summer following on from the loan deal for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Speaking to the Official Site as the club confirmed his arrival, Wilder explained that he had been our number one target all summer so he was delighted to see us get the deal over the line as we continue our preparations for the coming Championship season of 2018/19.
