Recent news has emerged about Newcastle United loanee Ciaran Clark and his current wage situation.

It has now been revealed that the Blades are only responsible for paying a third of the centre-back’s weekly wage, with Newcastle paying the rest of the £40,000 per week. This is according to The Telegraph.

The 33-year-old signed a season-long loan deal with Sheffield United this pre-season, and he featured in the Blades first three matches of the season. Clark made his Bramall Lane debut against Millwall in a 2-0 victory, and his performance was rewarded with a place in the team of the week.

Unfortunately, the Sheffield United faithful haven’t seen him in action since, due to a hamstring injury. Paul Heckingbottom’s assistant, Stuart McCall, revealed before the international break that the Irishman was not expected back until at least the middle of October, having suffered a setback in training.

Paul Heckingbottom will have his thinking cap on ahead of Saturday’s home game against Birmingham City. With Ciaran Clark out injured as well as Anel Ahmedhodzic, it does seem likely that Kyron Gordon will be starting for the Blades.

Jayden Bogle played 45 minutes for United’s development team this week, and Heckingbottom will be glad to get one defender back closer to 100% fitness. Clark could be another one that’s a week or two away from being ready for action.
