Sheffield United have pipped Championship rivals Portsmouth in the race to land full-back Stephen Jordan.

Jordan, released by Brian Laws’ Burnley in the Summer was tipped to rekindle his partnership with former boss Steve Cotterill, who, like Kevin Blackwell, is amidst a rebuilding process.

However, with United’s first game just over forty-eight hours away, it appears United have a new face to add to the threadbare defensive line.

Jordan could be ready for this Sunday, and is likely to line up in a defence, consisting of Jonny Ertl, Chris Morgan and Nyron Nosworthy; with only Andy Taylor and Rob Kozluk in reserve.

The left-back began his career at Manchester City, and the 28 year old made over 50 league appeanrances at Eastlands in seven years there, before moving to Burnley in 2007.

His role in their promotion season of 2009 was limited due to injury, which also hampered his appearances in the Premier League last season.

Jordan then joined up with Cotterill and his Pompey side for Pre-Season, and despite interest opted to stay in the north, and is expected to complete the move this afternoon.
