Former Sheffield United, Watford, and Middlesbrough manager, Chris Wilder, could be set for a heroic return to football management via the Championship strugglers Rotherham United – according to FLW.

The Millers relieved Matt Taylor of his managerial duties following his side’s 5-0 loss at Watford at the weekend, after 13 months in tenure at the South Yorkshire club. With a managerial position now vacant, it is believed that former Sheffield United boss, and Rotherham United player, Chris Wilder, who played over 100 league and cup games between 1992 and 1996, is a firm hot favourite to land the new position at the New York Stadium.

Wilder will forever hold a place in the hearts of Sheffield United supporters after he took over the reins from Nigel Adkins in May 2016, despite, a rocky start, the former Blades defender took the Bramall Lane club on a magnificent run and ended the season top of League One with 100 points, whilst also achieving 100 goals in the process. It truly was a centenary season. He backed up his achievement by finishing second in the Championship in 2019, thus gaining promotion to the Premier League since 2006.

He staved off relegation in his first top-flight season after finishing ninth but wasn’t able to repeat the exploits for the 2020/21 campaign which saw his resignation in March 2021.

Wilder would be a good fit at The Millers but who will take the hot seat will remain to be seen.
