Sheffield United this morning announced Trevor Birch as the new Chief Executive.
The fifty-one year old is renowned for being appointed at clubs in financial crisis or on the verge of a takeover, which will undoubtedly set tongues wagging around the city.
Following a short career that took in spells at Shrewsbury, Chester and Liverpool-based Marine, Birch moved into business and has held esteemed roles at numerous clubs over the years.
Birch played a significant role in Roman Abramovich’s takeover before being replaced by Peter Kenyon and refusing a different position at the club that was offered to him.
Spells at Leeds United, Everton and Derby County followed, but it’s now Bramall Lane that Birch is looking to make a difference. Find out more later, when Kevin McCabe addresses the media.
