Goals from Richard Cresswell, Jamie Ward and Jonathan Fortune were enough for the Blades to overcome a lackluster Reading side.

Jonathan Fortune opened the scoring on his home debut (earning the Vital Sheff Utd editor a tidy profit in the process) before second half goals from Richard Cresswell and Jamie Ward sealed the victory.

With Marcel Seip out for a number of weeks, Fortune kept his position in the side, whilst Ched Evan, Cresswell and Ward were all recalled the starting line-up.

The Blades looked to overcome the disappointment of Saturday’s defeat, and from the off took the game to their opponents, but were almost caught out when Shane Long was put in the clear, but when he lifted the ball over Bunn, just saw the effort drift agonizingly wide.

When Kyle Walker’s quick throw caught out the Royals defence, Jamie Ward’s snapshot was tipped wide by Federici before Cresswell headed over from six yards out with the goal beckoning.

The breakthrough finally came on 12 minutes. When a set-piece was cleared as far as Harper, the Reading loanee found Montgomery whose cross was brought down on the thigh and volleyed home by Fortune, displaying the control and precision any attacker on the pitch would be proud of.
