Sheffield United supporters have been left confused and disappointed in the selection of yesterday’s ‘Man of the Match,’ in the 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers, which saw Oli Norwood and substitute Illiman Ndiaye net twice to secure the victory.

As the match hits the 85th-minute mark, supporters are given the opportunity to vote via Twitter for their ‘Man of the Match.’ In the victories over Millwall and Sunderland, Bosnian defender Anel Ahmedhodzic had been the winner of this award, whilst goal scorer Ndiaye was named as ‘an of the Match against Blackburn. However, many Blades supporters felt that the title ought to have gone to either Oli McBurnie or Oli Norwood – both of whom were exceptional.

There is no doubting Illiman Ndiaye’s talents or contribution to yesterday’s game. The Senegalese international played 25 minutes after replacing Reda Khadra on 65 minutes before netting twice to seal an impressive victory but the number of minutes on the pitch suggests that United fans aren’t happy with the overall winner.

Due to the mobile data signal in the stadium, I find it difficult to vote on this, however, I would have voted for either Reda Khadra, who impressed on his debut, or McBurnie, who despite his best efforts found himself thwarted by the Rovers keeper on several occasions.

Whilst there is (good) disagreement over the Man of the Match, what can be said, is that Paul Heckingbottom has strength in depth with many quality players who are recognised at the end of each match.
