With Matthew Kilgallon’s future still very much in the balance, United could already be lining up a replacement in the shape of 21 year old Alex Pearce.
Despite this week’s statement that the defender is likely to stay at Bramall Lane, an offer ‘too good to refuse’ could still tempt the former Leeds United man away from South Yorkshire.
Pearce, who has had several loan spells away from the club, has come into his own this season, proving to be one of the standout stars in a poor Royals side, and with Liverpool touted to be interested in goalkeeper Adam Federici, the the Berkshire side could find themselves struggling to stay in the division.
At just 21, Pearce’s capture would also be seen as a long term investment, and could be drafted in this month regardless of Kilgallon’s status, as it’s likely a move will materialise at the end of the season when his contract runs out.
