Sheffield United could be edging ever closer to bolstering their attacking options by signing Tommy Smith from Watford.

Watford accepted an anonymous £1.8million last night, with speculation rife as to who it was from. The Times ran a story this morning claiming Reading were the unnamed party, with manager Brendan Rodgers coaching Smith last season.

However, The Sun, and many online websites stated Bramall Lane as the destination for the 29 year old who scored 17 goals in a tough season for Watford last term.

Smith would link up with former Hornets Darius Henderson, Leigh Bromby, Lee Williamson and possibly John-Joe O’Toole, depending on his future.
