No news is good news as they say. Even better news for Sheffield United and its supporters that two of the clubs biggest players will remain with the football club for (at least) the remainder of the season after the Blades thwarted off bids from Liverpool, Everton, Fulham and Newcastle United for Illiman Ndiaye and Sander Berge.
Sheffield United are currently second in the Championship table and twelve points better off than third placed Middlesbrough. The Blades also have a slight advantage of a game in hand (against Reading at The Select Car Leasing Stadium). Whilst the Blades hold a handsome lead, nothing is guaranteed until it is mathematically impossible for those below to overtake United. Any serious departures from the playing staff could damage to their final promotion push!
Final day speculation concerns were that Norwegian international midfielder, Sander Berge, was being sold to Fulham. He was even pulled from Sunday’s 3-3 draw at Wrexham in the FA Cup to hold talks with the Cottages. The deal seemed off when Berge returned to training yesterday, however, there was late interest from Liverpool, and Newcastle United.
Premier League strugglers Everton were also linked with Senegalese international forward, Ndiaye, during the January transfer window, as the Blades rejected an alleged £25million bid + addons for their young star bought from National League Boreham Wood in 2019.
Due to a transfer embargo, which is expected to be lifted this month, the Blades were unable to make any new signings.
The revelation that these two players will remain at S2 comes as a delight to the supporters of Sheffield united and hope that they can all push on for promotion to the Premier League.
