Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell bemoaned referee Eddie Ilderton following the Blades third defeat in four games.

Ilderton, who awarded the home side a penalty after Nyron Nosworthy supposedly felled Danny Wellbeck, was criticised by the Blades boss.

‘I thought the referee had a big influence on the shape of the game. For the penalty Nyron Nosworthy has used his body to get between (Danny) Welbeck and himself. It’s on the DVD so I know what I’m talking about.

However, speaking after the Coca-Cola Championship defeat at Deepdale, Blackwell did admit that his side had enough chances to get back into the game, that simply weren’t taken.

‘But we had some chances second half and really should have finished them off.’

With Kyle Bartley making his debut at centre-half for the game, as well as Nosworthy and Toni Kallio starting the game, despite only joining last week, Blackwell once again but the Blades poor result down to the second coming of the injury crisis.

‘The problem at the moment is that we are throwing players together.’
