Welsh international Adam Davies made his first Bramall Lane start for the Blades on Saturday in United’s 2-2 draw. It was only his second Championship start since the 3rd of January.

Paul Heckingbottom was forced into a goalkeeper change against Coventry after Wes Foderingham was shown a straight red for violent conduct against Blackpool. And, United handed Adam Davies his Bramall Lane debut against Norwich, and he will continue to be the man between the sticks for the next game, due to Foderingham’s suspension.

It was the most dreadful home debut Davies could’ve imagined after he dallied with the ball at his feet before kicking his clearance straight into the onrushing Teemu Pukki, which saw the ball deflect into the net, putting Norwich 1-0 up after just a few minutes.

Things went from bad to worse for the home debutant as Norwich doubled their lead 16 minutes into the game, and Pukki doubled his tally. Only this time, Davies couldn’t do much with the strike.

Shortly after, Davies was called into action when Sargent burst into the box down the right and looked to put the nail in the coffin, but Davies spread himself well and made an excellent save from a one-vs-one situation.

Davies, who described his Bramall Lane debut as “not the best of starts” to The Star, redeemed himself with a couple of saves. The final significant action from Davies came with just minutes to spare when Norwich City was awarded a penalty, giving Pukki a chance to win the game with a hattrick opportunity. The 30-year-old had different ideas and made amends for his earlier error by saving the spot-kick – earning a point for the Blades.
