3 hours from Wembley?

Image for 3 hours from Wembley?

It’s a tough ask but win at the Riverside tonight and we take a big step towards an FA Cup semi-final and a first visit to the new Wembley.

The Blades have a proud record in the FA Cup in recent years and with ‘Boro looking like a side who might struggle for goals on occasion, could this be our year?

If Kevin Blackwell can find a performance from the team to match some of those from his spell at the club, we could be looking at a home tie with Cardiff in the quarter-finals.

BBC TV coverage will no doubt put a bit of a dampener on the atmosphere (is there one at the Riverside?) which can only help.

Vital Quotes:

Kevin Blackwell has told the official site of the need for commitment and a high tempo, music to the ears of Blades fans after the lacklustre Robson era

He said ‘I won’t tolerate someone missing a tackle or not putting a head in where it hurts. If they do they will find themselves sitting with me because I want players putting their bodies on the line for this Club. Blades fans like their team to be up and at the opposition, showing commitment, and I want our lads to play at a high tempo. That applies to training as well, and to be fair everyone seems to be responding.’

Middlesbrough Team News:

French slapper Jeremie Aliadiere is suspended as is set piece danger man David Wheater. Afonso Alves could start.

Player to watch: Stewart Downing

Looked far and away Boro’s best player at the Lane and will be doubly keen to progress in the Cup after signing a 5 year contract at the Riverside.

Sheffield United Team News:

Let’s hope Oscar winning film ‘No country for old men’ wasn’t written about Middlesbrough, Gary Speed and Ugo Ehiogu return to the Blades squad after injury.

Player to watch: Michael Tonge

Two good performances from Tonge since Blackwell’s return have raised hopes. His passing will be key if we are to retain the ball long enough to draw the sting out of Boro tonight.

Match Facts & Stats

Last time we played at the Riverside we lost 3-1. However, we had Paul Gerrard in net so in the best playground tradition ‘That didn’t count’

Match Prediction:

I’ve got a good feeling about this one, the Blades to win 2-1 in extra time.
