Sheffield United have confirmed this week that 32-year-old defender Martin Cranie will remain at Bramall Lane for the rest of the current 2018/19 campaign after he signed a contract extension until the summer.

Having signed a short term deal with us over the summer transfer window following his release by Middlesbrough, although he’s only made two starts in the Championship for us this year – games against Nottingham Forest and Wigan Athletic – manager Chris Wilder sees him as the ideal man to provide cover at the back given his wealth of experience.

Speaking to the Official Site as the new deal was announced a short time ago, the gaffer explained.

“Martin is an excellent professional and has been a valuable member of the squad this season. He’s zero maintenance, he just comes in and works hard and when called upon, he’s been ready and let no-one down.”

Fans were clearly happy with the news as the official Tweet from the club on social media had 99 likes inside of the opening 20 minutes and I imagine before the hour is out plenty of additional praise will go his way.

We’ll also have to see if David McGoldrick gets the contract extension that was also being referenced.
