United striker gets Under 19 call-up…

Sheffield United’s in-form Academy striker Jordan Slew has been called up to the England Under-19 squad to replace Southampton hot shot Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Slew, who has been prolific for the Blades’ Under 18 team this season could feature in the game at Chesterfield’s b2net stadium next week.

The striker has made several appearances from the bench for United, leaving many crying out for him to be given a more extended opportunity.

What we must remember is, that this can often be a publicity move by the FA, including a local based player in the squad to generate interest from nearby fans who may have previously passed up the opportunity to go.

Regardless, it will give Slew an opportunity show Blades boss Micky Adams that he is capable of doing it at a higher level, as he pushes for a place in the Blades first-team more frequently.
