Sheffield United saw their ten game winning run end at Preston North End but they stretched their run of clean sheets to eight in a row in the league, with a resolute display in the 0-0 draw at Preston North End.

United spent much of the game on the back foot but some desperate last ditch defending and a number of crucial blocks as the players threw their bodies on the line meant there was no way through for the Preston attack.

Preston were almost ahead inside twenty seconds when Mark Howard failed to hold onto a Neil Kilkenny shot but the keeper did well to thwart Joe Garner from the rebound.

Garner twice missed great chances to give Preston the lead in either half. His header in the first half went just wide of a post before a similar result with a shot in the second half.

Both sides had goals ruled out for offside. Conor Coady had the ball in the net for United in the first half whilst Paul Gallagher had his effort ruled out in the second half.

Josh Brownhill came closest to breaking the deadlock for the home side when his effort rebounded off a post.

Despite being under pressure for much of the game, United had a great chance to claim the three points in the closing minutes but Chris Porter couldn`t keep his header down.

The goalless draw for United made it eight clean sheets in the league in a row, a new club record.
