With Sheffield Wednesday earlier winning it was important for Sheffield United to respond against Hartlepool later on Saturday afternoon, which The Blades did.
Danny Wilson, who said he was ‘unaware’ of The Owls’ result, knows that is it important what his side does and not anyone else.
He also knows that the late 1-0 win is a big win at this stage of the season: ‘we have won, but we didn’t even look at the game taking place before ours, we didn’t know Wednesday had won. If we get a result or not, all we can do is make sure our own house is in order and we have done that.
‘Maybe this result has knocked a bit of stuffing out of one or two of other teams around us as they didn’t expect us to win this one. To win anything you need, at this stage of the season, big performances and we got that.’
The win was secured by Ched Evans’ late penalty and Wilson wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to be taking it: ‘Ched Evans took the penalty well, calmness personified.
‘People can show stress in those circumstances and he was as cool as a cucumber – it shows what kind of temperament the boy has got.’
Wilson is right isn’t he, what The Blades do, and not what others do, is of most importance at the moment!
