Sheffield United responded to bad recent form, including back-to-back defeats, by getting back to winning ways at Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Goals early in each half from Ched Evans gave The Blades a 2-0 win with Danny Wilson knowing that his decisive second goal ‘killed the game’ with him capitalising on a mistake: ‘Ched’s second killed the game off and although it came from a mistake he still had a lot of work to do.’

Having conceded three goals in two successive games Wilson was happy with a ‘very professional’ showing from his side and praised the improved defending: ‘it was a very professional performance at a place that is very, very difficult to come to. I fancied we would keep a clean sheet and I thought the defence were outstanding.

‘We defended very deep and very doggedly and coped well with their front two, who are very lively.

‘Make no mistake they will punish you if you’re not on your game, but we were and I was very pleased with the overall performance.’
