Manager Chris Wilder has confirmed that he will make changes for the EFL Cup tie against Walsall this midweek following our victory over Brentford in the season opener.

Speaking to theStar as he met with the media to preview the game on Wednesday, Wilder said that with progress proving difficult in terms of new captures this summer as we wait on clubs making decisions about certain players, whilst he would change the match day squad for Walsall, some players would have to be asked to go the extra mile owing to some lack of options.

Admitting he’s have rather rotated the full group to enable players to rest, he explained.

‘We`ll play the rest of the squad. And some of the lads who didn`t even get changed will be involved. But we`re a little bit light in some areas and so a few will have to put a shift in again. Three or four might have to do that. But I`ve got no issue with their character or work ethic, so I`m sure a lot of them will be sticking their hand up to do that.’

With Mark Duffy missing a fair bit of pre season training as his partner gave birth, Wilder admitted he could start to build his fitness quicker as he gets back up to speed.

‘Duff had an interrupted pre-season, he didn`t come away with us to Spain, and then he had a knock at Eastleigh, so he`s not where we want him to be just yet.’

Wilder added about Brentford.

Against Brentford, I thought the fans were great. Again. The atmosphere was electric, as good as when I came back for some of the cup games under Nigel Clough and towards the end of last season. Victory was a reward for them.’
