Manager Chris Wilder has said he was incredibly proud of Sheffield United’s efforts in the FA Cup clash with Leicester City.

Heading to the King Power Stadium to face off against Claude Puel’s side, Wilder knew United were the underdogs in the game and he knew it would be an incredibly tough tie but having lost the fifth round affair to a solitary Jamie Vardy strike, he was taking the positives from our improvements having lost four one in the League Cup earlier in the season.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game, a delighted gaffer explained.

‘We gave a good account of ourselves, we remain disciplined and stayed in the game right until the end against quality opposition. It was different to a Championship game, we had to get in behind the ball and plug holes. We were structured and organised, we worked hard and we pushed them.’

Wilder also pointed to the fact that with Leicester playing basically their strongest side, we could also take plenty of positives from that given how we played, the chances we created and how we defended against them.

Of course the disappointment was in not making more of the chances that fell our way and testing Kasper Schmeichel more than we did.

‘When we saw they were playing a full hit we knew how the game would go, we couldn’t match them up and play our normal game. They are in a different situation, they’re not going to win the Premier League or get into the top four, so their priority is the FA Cup and as seen by their team they were going all out to win.’

The gaffer went on to reflect.

‘It was a tight game, games aren’t won on teamsheets or in the dressing room and I said to the players that if Leicester were to beat us they would have to go through us all and they did, we put up a really good show and when it’s a tight game you have to take your chances to score. We’ve not taken three or four good opportunities and they took one of theirs in great fashion.’

Onto Queens Park Rangers later this evening at Bramall Lane and see what we can do in relation to keeping our potential Play Off dream alive for this season.
