Manager Chris Wilder was again left delighted by Sheffield United’s efforts in the game against Ipswich Town this weekend.

Hosting Mick McCarthy’s side at Bramall Lane for the game on Saturday, a Chris Basham goal shortly after the half time break was enough to return yet another victory this season – continuing United’s success as this year’s Championship surprise package.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media following the game, Wilder was obviously delighted to have picked up our fifth home win of the campaign.

‘It was a positive performance with a clean sheet and we showed a real resilience when we had to defend to keep the ball out of the net towards the end. John Lundstram came in to replace Paul Coutts who has been outstanding and it was generally a very good performance and when you play well you need to pick up a result and we did. My team is fearless, we go for it every week and in the first-half it doesn’t surprise me to see us pushing the opposition back.’

Wilder went on to say.

‘We believe in what we’re doing and we’re not going to change. We’re pleased with where we stand and yet again we were driven over the line by excellent, passionate support from the terraces. It is an fantastic environment for the players to enjoy their football. If they make a mistake but the supporters know their honest, they will always forgive. And this is an honest group of players who go to the end regardless of the situation and I can’t ask for anymore.’

Basham was also interviewed after the game, and he told thestar that he didn’t believe any side in the Championship could match our spirit – but the immediate aim is beating relegation before we look any further.

‘Another 26 points to go and we we`ll be alright. It`s the best team I have been involved with. Everyone is on it in training every single day. If they`re not, they get told, it`s as simple as that. It`s a really tight knit group, a very close environment, but people express themselves as well.’

He added.

‘That`s the good thing about us. We have got lads who can come in, lads go out, but everyone knows what they are doing and there are people who can start in every position. One of the main things about this team, is we are going to have a go. I don`t think we can sit back, I don`t think it`s the way we play. When the gaffer says take the handbrake off, there`s no other way we can play. The attitude is really good, excellent in fact, and everyone will make sure that continues. I don`t think that`s going to change. Everyone who comes onto the field has done really well in the week, because we have to produce in training.’

Wilder also gave an injury update on Kieron Freeman and he has dislocated his knee unfortunately.

‘He`s dislocated his knee so that`s not great. He`ll got for a scan. Our players put their bodies on the line and sometime, these things happen. He`ll have a period out but, medically, we`ll only know how long for when the results come back.’
