Manager Chris Wilder is looking for a reaction from Sheffield United when we host Bristol City this Friday.

On the back of the defeat to Millwall in our last game, Wilder told the Official Site as he met with the media this week that he was looking for a reaction from the players and a good response to the mistakes we made in the last game.

‘The reaction from Saturday was no different to when we’ve lost any other game to be honest. I’ve not really learnt anything, because I’m fortunate to have an outstanding group of players. To do what they’ve done this season shows what we’re about, but our standards have just slipped a little.’

With talk of complacency following the game, Wilder went on to say.

‘It wasn’t a lack of commitment, it’s not a lack of trying, we just made some basic errors and weren’t up to the speed you need to be in this very tough division. Sometimes teams just raise their games that extra notch or two and if you’re not at your best, the result goes against you.’

He added.

‘Our players have raised their standards this season and we’ve had to and we’ve deserved every result we’ve had this year to get us in the position we’re in. I will always give honest answers to questions I’m asked whether that’s about decisions in a game or decisions I’ve made, I’m totally up front, but it’s the players who have the biggest opportunity to influence a game.’

In terms of team news, George Baldock will remain absent but Wilder is hopeful he will now return shortly – otherwise we have a clean bill of health.

‘We have no new injury issues. There are a couple that won’t be with us until after January, but George Baldock is close. The right-wing back slot is a specialised position, but Basham has done great and you won’t hear me moaning about injuries.’

He went on to explain.

‘Players do get injured and we’re just unfortunate two in the same position have gone down at the same time, but we’ve get on with it. It’s not an ideal role for Bash, but when we look through the group he is the obvious pick because we didn’t want to change the shape that has served us so well in the last 12 months or so.’
