Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder may still be on a high from midweek victory over QPR, but he’s remaining grounded and hoping to get a boost ahead of Hull from three players.
With Sheffield United forging on once more in the battle for the Play Off spots as we chase back to back promotions this year, Wilder told the Official Site as he met with the media ahead of Friday’s action, that he was hopeful of a triple fitness boost ahead of the game to bolster his options.
Speaking ahead of the televised game, James Wilson, Ricky Holmes and David Brooks could come back into his thoughts, and he also has a decision to make on the goalkeeping front as Simon Moore has now served his three game suspension.
‘James Wilson was in on Wednesday, he’s improving by the day and hopefully he’ll be involved on Friday, if not Tuesday. Holmes and Brooks were also in on Wednesday and they have injuries that can improve quickly, so we’ll see how they are later, but hopefully it’s good news.’
As for the goalkeeper debate, he went on to say.
‘We’ll make a decision on who plays in goal, but Jamal has done well and is in possession of the shirt, so Simon will have to move him. We’re after competition for places and we’ve certainly got that in that department. Jamal has improved through experience and good coaching, Wardy is top draw and works the goalkeepers very hard.’
Mark Duffy was also in front of club press to preview the game, and he insisted the squad have their sights set firmly on the top six spots.
‘We’re striving to get in those play-offs, that’s the feeling throughout the camp. We were disappointed a few weeks ago with our league position, but when you spin it round and takes the positive, you see we’re still in a fantastic position. We’re chasing now and it’s a different pressure for us compared to those above. We know how good we are, we’re in there on merit. We’ll continue to be positive like we always are, we’re always looking to win the next game.’
Duffy went on to say about the approach to results from the gaffer.
‘I’ve heard the Gaffer talking about getting the plaudits when we weren’t picking up the results and that’s the most frustrating thing in football. It’s going to boil down to winning games ugly and winning when you do produce good performances. But it’s about winning, picking those three points up and moving on, nobody will care about how we win if we end up in the top six.’
