The long chase for Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland striker Scott Hogan was brought to an end a short time ago this morning as Sheffield United confirmed his arrival at the club.
Manager Chris Wilder has been chasing the 26-year-old since last summer and the striker now becomes our third capture of the January transfer window, following Kieran Dowell and Gary Madine.

With injuries hitting him at Villa Park, he hasn’t had the best of spells in the Midlands with largely limited game time, but with speculation rife that a deal was almost done late last night, the confirmation of Leon Clarke’s loan departure to Wigan Athletic effectively confirmed Hogan was incoming, so the announcement earlier today will come as no surprise to anyone.
Speaking to the Official Site, Wilder said of the loan deal until the end of the season (no reported buy option at this stage).
“I’ve made no secret of my admiration for Scott and his abilities, we made enquiries about him in the last window and we’ve had to be patient. He is a player we know a lot about and we are confident that he will be a great addition to what we already have. Options at the top end of the pitch are vitally important and in the situation we find ourselves in, Scott offers us a new dimension. Also, Scott had options but he made it clear that he wanted to join us and that goes a long way in my book.”
📽️ "I'm finally here and I can't wait to get started. There's no hiding from the fact it's been a difficult time at Villa, I've been there two years and had relative success, but personally it didn't really happen for me."#TwitterBlades #SUFC #ForgedinSteel ⚔️🔴⚪️⚫️

Fans will be hoping he can get himself up and running quickly and find some of the Brentford form that got him the move to Villa in the first place.
