Who`d have thought it?

I`ve not written an article for a little while due to a course I had to go on. We`ve had a good run of results over the last few weeks, and I like many others would have looked at where we were last season and where we are now and wouldn`t be able to believe it. Third in the table separated only by goal difference is not bad going.

I was listening to CW on BBC Radio Sheffield on the way home from the match last night and liked his attitude of “let other teams chase us for once”. It`s true, it probably puts other teams off coming to BDTBL as they will now know we have a bunch of fighters in the team that want to perform and go on.

Three wins out of the last four is very good going, should have been four out of four for the effort and performance against Forest though, but you can`t take that away from the team though. We`ve also beaten the table toppers as well in that mix so it shows we can bring it to the table.

Yesterday`s game against Ipswich was a decent game, we should have had more goals but Basham delivered the second half winner. That just shows that it`s not just the strikers we have that can stick the ball in the back of the onion bag! Wilder looks like he`s rotating the suspensions as well, with Coutts sitting the game out to serve his suspension. I know it wouldn`t bode well if we had all the suspensions at once. I can`t really put a finger on the player of the match from yesterday`s performance, everyone played their part. O`Connell was hungry for a goal with his efforts on net, as was Clarke. I think I`d have to give credit to Freeman though, back from an injury for his first match only to end up being stretchered off with a dislocated knee in the first half after some last ditch defending. Hope he has a speedy recovery. It must have been a day for players getting medically withdrawn as my lad`s team, Chesterfield Junior Blues U16`s had one of his defenders come off worse after a tackle on a forward and the goal post, so I hope he has a speedy recovery too.

It was a good result with us coming out on top, Ipswich caused a few problems but we managed to weather them and come away with all three points. I must admit their fans we pretty decent too, unlike some we`ve had over the past few months.

Anyway, Reading next at the Lane next weekend, I think we should get a result against them looking at their position in the table, so hopefully we can go top next week for a while.

I`ll be putting a newsletter out this week, so if there`s anyone that wants a copy of it, please drop me an email.

UTB!!!
