There will be eight current and former Sheffield United players represented at this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which kicks off this weekend.

The World Cup will begin this Sunday, 20th November at 20:00 PM GMT with hosts Qatar hosting Ecuador.

Sheffield United will have two players representing their nations at the FIFA World Cup. Striker Illiman Ndiaye will be representing Senegal, whilst the keeper, Adam Davies, will be amongst the Welsh squad – we wish them all the best in the tournament, and they both return injury-free!

Elsewhere, England will be taking five former Blades with them for their Group B fixtures, and potentially, beyond this should they advance from the group stage. Their Group B opposition are Iran, USA, who will be taking former loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Wales, who will also be taking Ethan Ampadu on their World Cup journey.

The Three Lions, coached by Gareth Southgate has selected four former Blades in his squad. Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, and defenders Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire all came through the Academy system at the S2 club, whilst former Liverpool loanee, Conor Coady (now with Everton), will all make the journey to Qatar. In 2013, Southgate, Wales coach, and former Blades defender, Robert Page, were rejected for the then-vacant manager position at Bramall Lane, with David Weir being accepted for the role!

England: Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire, Conor Coady, Aaron Ramsdale

Senegal: Illiman Ndiaye

USA: Cameron Carter-Vickers

Wales: Ethan Ampadu, Adam Davies
