New Watford head coach Rob Edwards will be taking charge of his first ever Championship game tonight. The Welshman was employed by Watford over the summer after his amazing title winning season,  last campaign, with Forest Green in League Two.

Edwards is still young for a manager at the age of 39, he doesn’t have a ton of experience at senior football management. The Watford head coach has said that he’s expecting a ‘difficult’ challenge in his first season as a Championship boss.

Rob Edwards spoke in an interview ahead of the first game of the Championship season:

“I think it’s always difficult. I don’t think it’ll be harder than ever, it’ll just be a challenge.

“I’m expecting it to be tough for us, but also for anyone who’s playing us as well. That’s what I see. I think it’ll be competitive and exciting to watch. It’s one of the best leagues in the world, isn’t it?” [Watford YouTube]

Watford in pre-season have been lining up in a 3-4-1-2 formation, a system that Rob Edwards favoured throughout his time at Forest Green. So it will provide an interesting clash as both teams will play a wingback system.
