It was hard to believe that either side at Vicarage Road yesterday were in the Premiership only a short time ago.

Any quality football on display was in short supply, as a single goal for Watford`s Lee Williamson was enough to give the Hornets all three points.

The Blades did actually start the game quite well as they forced Poom into an early save as Bromby met Gillespie`s corner.

Watford replied with a Smith shot that went well over, before Kilgallon blocked a dangerous cross from King.

United dominated the first 45 minutes in terms of possession but rarely looked like threatening Poom in Watford`s goal.

Watford started the second half far more positively and forced a couple of early corners that eventually came to nothing.

However, the home side were in front after 57 minutes, when confusion in the United defence allowed WILLIAMSON to crash home a deflected shot from the edge of the area.

It was a great strike from Williamson, but the confusion between Montgomery and Morgan as to who was going to close down Henderson would have been more at home on a Sunday League pitch.

Watford could have moved further in front, as King saw his long range effort fly just over the bar, before Henderson shrugged off the attentions of Kilgallon but sent his tame shot straight at Kenny.

United finally broke into life as Tonge saw his 25 yard effort saved by Poom and then his free-kick cleared off the line by Smith when it seemed Stead or Beattie were certain to score.

The final minutes saw United camped in Watford`s area but, as throughout the game, the Blades failed to get on the end of anything.

Robson certainly deserves some time to find the right balance in the squad, but his tactics again left the travelling fans scratching their heads.

It was a brave decision to play three up front, but the real worry for me is that it took Robson over an hour of the game to realise that it wasn`t working and needed changing.

The Blades next face West Brom at home in what is already an important game if the Blades are to keep up with the leading pack.
