Warnock’s Words

Neil Warnock felt that United were beaten by the better side on Tuesday, but said his team were far from disgraced.

Warnock told the official site, ‘We were beaten by a better, world class side- a lot of teams could have gone under because they are that good, just ask Roma!’

However, the Blades boss felt that United played their part in the game and, with a little more luck could have caused an upset,

‘If one or two things had gone our way it could have been very different. We had the penalty appeal turned down, we hit the bar and had one or two good opportunities- we were far from disgraced.’

Warnock also went on to comment on the atrocious decision by referee Rob Styles to turn down Shelton’s stone-wall penalty, adding,

‘I spoke to Rob and he said he couldn’t 100% give a penalty (Ed- yet he could give Gerrard one for ‘intent’!!!).

‘My complaint to him was that, surely, he should have been able to look across at the linesman so between them they get it right.

‘…he waved his hands across his chest and decided it wasn’t a penalty straight away. To me he did that too quickly.

‘All I’m asking for is decisions to be consistent.’
