Sheffield United look set to lose Ipswich Town striker Martyn Waghorn, who have agreed a deal with Derby County. United will naturally move onto another target with Daily Mirror’s Mike Keegan believing that the Blades will make a move for Millwall’s Lee Gregory.

The Waghorn saga had been going on for the last few weeks with United tabling a £5million bid for the former Rangers striker but his current club Ipswich Town didn’t wish to budge below a £7.5million figure. Derby County look set to folk out the cash and bring him to Pride Park, as reported in the Derbyshire Times.

Blades boss Chris Wilder must now move on and look for further targets to bolster his attack. Currently the chief only has Leon Clarke, David McGoldrick, Billy Sharp and transfer listed Caolan Lavery at his disposal and if the S2 club are ambitions in reaching the top six this season then this area is where it needs strengthening the most.

Daily Mirror reporter Mike Keegan tweeted earlier today that the Blades may make a move for their former striker Lee Gregory from fellow Championship rivals Millwall.

Gregory, 29 has been a former target for the Blades during Chris Wilder’s tenure. The Sheffield born striker was part of the Blades Academy until moving into non-league in 2008 and failed to break into the first team.

Vital View;

As previously stated in an earlier article, we aren’t a big fan of Waghorn and his abilities and believed that United could find better. In Gregory we believe that Wilder would bring out the best in him and would forge a stronger union in attack with the current crop of attackers at the Lane. That’s what we think, but would you be happy with Gregory joining United?

  • Looks like they need ranaldo after Middlesbrough result????? Players strolling about lie they where suffering from heat exhaustion???? Garbage!

  • You would have to offer at least 7 million for Gregorys we have had Waghorn at the Den before and I can tell you Gregorys is far far supioror

  • Last night was a 3rd tier performance. 3-0 down in the first 25mins was bloody hard see to be honest. Looking back to the Swansea defeat why the hell did Wilder put Lunstram in the team. All he did in that match was make a strong tackle, that was it. He had a sitter to score and failed miserably, he is a 3rd tier player. The match last night at Boro, a top 2 contenders by the end of the season, you should start with quality team players. Flecky, Duffy and Woddy in midfield better and comfortable and creative player’s who could have started at the start of the match. Going 3-0 down in a short space of time you would have expected Chrissy to replace Lundstrum straight away not wait till half time and just bring Woody on, it should have been done after the first goal. Lundstram should have been dropped he’s been stuggling to keep up since couttsy broke his leg, he’s a 3rd tier player, eventually changes were made but it was to late to even change the flow of the match. The second half it was tightened up but Duffy and Woody should have started not wait till after the 3rd goal. Shocking decision to start with. You start with your top player’s especially against Boro.

    • I am not a huge fan of Lundstram either BOZSUFC. However, he is more of a defensive midfielder and until Coutts returns we have nobody else to fill in. Tomorrow the transfer deadline ends and as I understand it, Wilder plans of bringing 4 new players in (2 on loan) so we shall see who comes in if anybody!
