49% of you who voted in our poll believe that wages are the main barrier in preventing Sheffield United from attracting better players.

28% feel that the tangible threat of relegation will put some players off coming to Bramall Lane, while only 13% believe that manager Neil Warnock is to blame. Just 10% think the reason is because United are not considered to be “one of the big clubs”.

Despite having spent approximately £8million pounds since January, with further funds rumoured to be held in reserve, United`s tight wage structure is likely to test Warnock`s infamous powers of persuasion to their limit. By the manager`s own admission, players such as Lee Hendrie, Francis Jeffers and Jason Roberts` Summer wage demands placed them out of United`s bracket.Out of Warnock`s eight new signings since the end of last season, only David Sommeil and Li Tie, discarded by Manchester City and Everton respectively, have joined from Premiership clubs.

With Championship sides continuing to demand inflated prices for their top players, illustrated by Preston`s believed £4million price tag for David Nugent, Warnock is expected to scour the overseas market in addition to out-of-contract players.

One player who won`t be joining United`s ranks though is Khalilou Fadiga. The Senegalese forward, discarded by Bolton, has been training with the Blades as he looks for a new club. But doubts over his short-term fitness and long-term health (Fadiga has been previously diagnosed with a heart problem), means that Warnock will not be taking his interest further.
