The League 1 season continued with the latest round of games played to kick off the New Year.
Sheffield United remain top and extended their lead over Bolton and Scunthorpe in fact. Oldham remain bottom of the piles below Shrewsbury, Coventry and Chesterfield.

An eighth win in the last 10 – with only one defeat – saw Sheffield United come from behind to beat Bury. This 3-1 victory ensured the Blades retained top spot and capitalised on dropped points from rivals Bolton and Scunthorpe. As for the Shakers it was an eighth defeat in 10 – they had drawn the last two though.
Bolton dropped three points behind the leaders when they were held to a 2-2 draw at Coventry. However, the Trotters were twice behind at the Ricoh Arena against the relegation threatened side and secured a point in added time.
The Millwall run was extended to four unbeaten but they missed the early chance to move into a play-off place – a win from the early kick off would have secured this. As it was the Lions were twice pegged back in a 2-2 draw at AFC Wimbledon.
Charlton recovered from the setback of falling behind early on at the Valley to eventually run out emphatic 4-1 winners against Bristol Rovers. This made it two wins from three unbeaten games for Karl Robinson as his Addicks spell begins to take off. Whereas the Pirates own two game winning run came to an end.
Having suffered successive defeats Chesterfield stopped that rot but a 0-0 draw with MK Dons at the Proact Stadium wasn’t enough to move them out of the bottom four – the Spireites moved up to 21st behind Bury on goal difference alone though.
The meeting between midtable sides Gillingham and Oxford ended with the U’s going away from Priestfield with a 1-0 win to take them up to 12th and closer to the play-offs than relegation. However, the Gills dropped to 17th and are now nearer to the bottom four than the top 6 themselves.
Bradford made it five unbeaten but the 2-1 win at Northampton was a first win in this time as the previous four had all been drawn. This kept the Bantams in 5th and within touch of the automatic places but the Cobblers’ seventh defeat in 10 is an alarming run of form they’ll seek to put a stop to.
The three game losing run was ended by Oldham but the Latics remain without a win in 10 and stay bottom of League 1. Port Vale’s point from this 0-0 draw at Boundary Park made it two unbeaten to ease Vale’s own relegation concerns.
Scunthorpe are now without a win in three – two have been drawn including this one with Peterborough. A late own goal at Glanford Park meant the Irons had to settle for a 1-1 draw and missed the chance to move up to 2nd. A third straight Posh draw meant they went down to 8th but are only two points off the play-offs.
A third straight defeat meant Shrewsbury dropped to second bottom but it’s all very tight from 18th-23rd. Fleetwood’s 1-0 win – extending the unbeaten run to eight – was enough to move the Cod Army into a play-off place into 6th.
Southend might be unbeaten in their last 10 but a 0-0 draw at struggling Swindon meant the Shrimpers dropped out of the top 6 at the expense of Fleetwood.
The Rochdale run goes on as a fifth straight win – eight of the last 10 played have ended in victories – means Dale remained in 5th but they’re also only five points off an automatic promotion place now. Having lost 2-0 at home Walsall’s own three game unbeaten run came to an end.
