The League 1 season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.
Sheffield United moved closer to automatic promotion – and the title – with Bolton now up to second. Coventry, Chesterfield and Swindon are set to go down but Port Vale’s survival bid improved.

Port Vale’s 2-1 win over Shrewsbury at Vale Park on Friday took Vale to within two points of safety. The Shrews – following the results of Saturday – are now just a place above the relegation zone.
After coming from behind Bolton’s 2-1 win over Northampton – who saw a three game winning run end – at the Macron Stadium took them into an automatic promotion spot. The Trotters are a point ahead of third place Fleetwood and also have a game in hand.
Bradford are still in contention for an automatic promotion place after a dramatic comeback against struggling Swindon. The Bantams equalised five minutes from time with the winner coming in added time. The Robins remain seven points from safety after this fourth straight defeat.
A positive reaction to a defeat last time round from Bristol Rovers – who have now won three of the last four – came after a 2-1 victory over Chesterfield. The Pirates remain in eighth but closed to within three points of the top six with the Spireites set to go down as they are second bottom and 10 points from safety.
Fleetwood had to settle for a point against AFC Wimbledon. This 0-0 draw at the Highbury Stadium meant the Cod Army dropped out of automatic promotion with Bolton replacing them in second.
Millwall’s unbeaten run was extended but a 0-0 draw – it is now five draws from the last 10 – with relegation threatened Bury meant the Lions dropped out of the play-offs. Southend took this whereas the Shakers moved four points clear of the relegation zone and up to 17th.
A first win in five has boosted MK Dons’ survival hopes as a six point gap was opened up. This 1-0 defeat for bottom of the league Coventry has taken them a step closer to League 2 as the Sky Blues remain 17 points from safety.
Oxford’s added time goal saw them come from behind to beat Scunthorpe 2-1 as the U’s retained their play-off hopes. The Irons latest defeat has seen them drop to fifth with a top seven finish coming under threat.
A late Peterborough goal ensured another defeat wasn’t suffered but this 1-1 draw with Oldham means Posh have now dropped to midtable. The Latics – who probably would have taken a point before the game at London Road – moved three points clear of the relegation zone.
Rochdale’s first win in 10 was secured in emphatic fashion as 10 man Gillingham were seen off 4-1 at Spotland. The Gills – who have now suffered back-to-back defeats – were already three one down when they lost a man to a sending off on the hour.
Sheffield United’s bid to secure the title moved a step closer as they came from a goal down to beat Charlton 2-1 at Bramall Lane. Victory extended the Blades’ unbeaten run to nine with a nine point advantage held over Bolton. The Addicks suffered a sixth defeat in 10 having lost this lead.
An amazing comeback saw Southend recover from two down against Walsall to score three goals in the final half hour. The Shrimpers’ 3-2 win at Roots Hall also took them above Millwall into the play-offs.
