A goal right out of the top drawer, that ended up in the top corner. I suppose it’s fitting in a way.
I’m talking of course about the goal that Paull Coutts scored against Reading back in our first season in the Championship. We won the game 2-1 that day, and the Scottish international got things started with an absolute ‘rocket’ into the top corner.
Coutts only scored five goals for us during his 136 appearances at Bramall Lane, but none of them were as impressive as the one that he scored against the Royals that day.
Was this goal Coutts' best in a Blades shirt?
Yes
No
So when the club decided to post the goal as their ‘goal of the day’, it gave fans a perfect opportunity to talk about not just what a great strike it was, but also the game itself and Coutts’ time at Bramall Lane overall, with plenty of comments coming in from all angles.
Still puzzles me why he didn't score more. Absolute quality baller, feel fortunate to have witnessed him first hand 👍👍🔴⚪

The only time he gives the ball away is to fire it into the top corner, LEGEND!!!!!

I'll never forget watching Jaap Stam prowling his technical area, scratching his head as we took Reading apart. Gave his team a footballing lesson that day.

Couttsy will be forever loved by blades. Played a major role in our resurgance, in one hell of a midfield that produced magnificent football

Just a shame he couldn’t have done it more often.
