With the world cup break now in place, Sheffield United do not have another Championship game until the 10th of December at home against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town.

Paul Heckingbottom and Sheffield United will use this break to rest some of their key players, whilst also getting minutes into the players that have been on the fringe of action.

The gaffer told Yorkshire Live:

“It’s a natural break, so we will use it, but then we need to be ready for when we play Huddersfield.

“We need to be training, we need to be working and get game time into the players who need it and get those who have been playing back up to speed.”

With the ridiculous amount of injuries United have suffered this season, they will be thankful for this world cup break. The likes of Rhian Brewster, Sander Berge, John Fleck, Tommy Doyle, Max Lowe, Rhys Norrington-Davies, Jayden Bogle, Jack Robinson and Ismaila Coulibaly will be ready, or further down the line in their recovery process by the time the season gets underway.

He said:

Heckingbottom has told his key players to go and spend time away with his family, encouraging them to have a week on holiday in a sunny climate.

United have made the decision to take part in some behind-closed-doors friendly games as part of the preparation for the return to Championship action in December.

Some players during this break are still continuing to play. As we already know Iliman Ndiaye and Adam Davies have been selected by their nations for the world cup. John Egan has been selected by the Republic Of Ireland for their friendlies against Norway and Malta.

Oli McBurnie has a scheduled surgery appointment for his hernia which means he will be fit in time for the Huddersfield Town game.
